You have my permission — first day of Christmas music!

The kids have been talking for weeks about starting up all sorts of Christmas preparations in our house, and I’ve been putting them off, saying, “The day after Thanksgiving.  The day after Thanksgiving we can start.”

Well… here we are.  We shuffled out the door to Thanksgiving dinner yesterday morning about 11, then came back in about 8 p.m.  So the house is a mess, we have schoolwork to do and a crew to feed for lunch, but I promised our little darlings last night that we’d start Christmas today.

Yet.  Thoughts of bringing boxes of plunder inside and even attempting online shopping today are a little overwhelming for me right now.

Thank goodness there’s a simple and fairly non-commital way for me to kick the season off this morning:

Christmas music!

I love, love, love Christmas music.  I look forward to it all year long because I only allow myself to listen to it between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  (Keeps is special that way.  And I actually follow my own rule most years… excepting one particularly melancholy day this past October during which I had to steal a listen to Christmas music just to get myself out of a little funk!)

Today, officially, all that being (mostly) good has paid off, and it’s officially time to play Christmas music at our house!

As for my kids, who are always up earlier than I expect them, we’ve already listened to I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer, All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth, and Run Run Rudolph.

But as for me, I’d just as soon have started today with Lauren Daigle’s Christmas album Behold, which I discovered last Christmas season and have been thinking about in the 11 months since.  So many good songs, but my favorite is Light of the World.  Click and listen below!

Guess I would officially consider today the start of the Christmas season… and the kids definitely aren’t going to let me forget it’s time!  Be like us and turn on some Christmas music if you’re having trouble getting into the spirit today… you officially have my permission.
